Inside the studio

how an ideabecomesa real thing.

WatchSTUDIO_PROCESS_04

Nothing here is theory. This is the actual route an idea takes in this studio: from something that annoyed me on a Tuesday to a working thing people use. Walk through the four steps and see the real builds that came out of each one.

It starts as an irritation

notice

an afternoon

Something is harder, slower or sadder than it needs to be, and nobody has fixed it. I write it down exactly as it annoyed me, in plain words, before I dress it up as a product.

  • Write the annoyance in one sentence
  • Ask who else lives with it
  • Look for what already exists and why it doesn't work

What have you noticed lately that nobody seems to have fixed?

what it actually takes

days

not years

A first working version usually exists within a week. Waiting for the perfect plan is how ideas die.

1

person to start

No big team, no agency, no committee. One person who cares, plus the right tools, gets further than most people expect.

£0

to find out

Testing whether an idea has legs costs almost nothing now. The expensive part is building the wrong thing for a year.

your turn to notice something

Three questions is all it takes to get the thing out of your head and onto a page. I'll read it, and tell you honestly what it would take to build.

whatever is in your head is possible now
